Take the Reins: Design and Teach Your Own UCR Course!
Hey UCR Highlanders! Ever sat in a class and thought, "I wish someone would teach a course on [that super cool niche topic I'm obsessed with]"? Or maybe you've got a fantastic idea for a unique learning experience that you know other students would love? Well, get ready to unleash your inner educator, because UCR offers an incredibly exciting and unique opportunity: you can design and lead your very own original 1-unit, Pass/No Pass course! This isn't just about learning; it's about innovating, leading, and leaving your mark on the undergraduate curriculum. How cool is that?!
Imagine the possibilities! This program empowers you to explore your passions, share your expertise, and create a learning environment tailored to a specific interest that might not be covered in traditional courses. Whether it's a deep dive into a trending social issue, a workshop on a specific software skill, an exploration of a unique cultural phenomenon, or a hands-on creative project, the canvas is yours! While you're in the driver's seat, you're never alone. Each course has a faculty instructor of record who provides essential mentoring and support behind the scenes. They're there to guide you, offer advice, and ensure your course is a fantastic experience for everyone involved. This is an incredible chance to work closely with a professor in a whole new way, gaining insights into course development and academic leadership.
Beyond the sheer excitement of teaching your own class, this opportunity is a powerful way to develop invaluable leadership skills. You'll learn to innovate, organize, communicate effectively, and inspire your peers. You'll be actively promoting democratic, experiential education on campus, helping to shape what and how students learn at UCR. This experience looks phenomenal on your resume, showcasing your initiative, expertise, and ability to lead. And here's the best part: there is no cost associated with participating in this program! It's a truly unique, no-barrier way to make a tangible contribution to the UCR community and elevate your own academic journey. Ready to step up and design the next must-take course?
