Program Overview
Supercharge Your Grades: Unlock Success with Supplemental Instruction (SI)!
Hey UCR Highlanders! Ever found yourself staring down a tough course, feeling like you're in it alone, or wishing there was a secret weapon to help you ace those challenging exams? Well, get ready for a game-changer: Supplemental Instruction (SI)! This isn't just another study group; it's a dynamic academic assistance program designed to help you conquer those traditionally tricky courses – you know, the ones that often have high withdrawal rates or where students struggle the most. SI is your strategic advantage, built to transform how you learn and help you absolutely thrive!
So, how does this magic happen? SI uses peer-led group study, meaning you'll be working with a super-knowledgeable student who's already aced the class you're taking. Think of SI sessions as regularly scheduled, out-of-class study parties where serious learning happens! It's your prime opportunity to meet with classmates, compare notes, dive deep into readings, hash out key course concepts, and collaboratively develop rock-solid study strategies. And when exam time rolls around? You'll be prepped and confident, because SI sessions are also perfect for test review. We provide structured and planned activities and guides, often even created in collaboration with your course faculty, so you know you're focusing on exactly what matters. Essentially, it's organized study time that's way more effective and engaging than going it alone!
UCR wants to make sure you have every opportunity to succeed, which is why we offer two fantastic versions of SI to fit different needs: Open SI and Learning Community SI. The main difference? Participation! If you're enrolled in a Learning Community, attending SI sessions twice a week is part of your program. This built-in support ensures you're consistently engaging with the material and your peers. For everyone else, Open SI follows the traditional, voluntary model of Supplemental Instruction. This means you can drop into sessions as often as you need, whenever you want that extra boost. Both options offer the same high-quality, peer-led support designed to demystify tough topics, sharpen your study skills, and dramatically improve your chances of acing those challenging courses. Get ready to transform your learning and celebrate your academic victories with SI!
