UC Riverside is one of 46 Hispanic-Serving Institutions, or HSIs, recognized by the U.S. Department of State as Fulbright HSI Leaders.
The recognition, announced Monday, Oct. 30, acknowledges noteworthy support for Fulbright exchange participants and promotion of Fulbright program opportunities on campus in the previous year. The Fulbright program is the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program.
UCR has received the designation for all three years of the initiative since 2021.
Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield commended the institutions receiving the Fulbright HSI Leader designation this year.
“Representation matters and pairing the world-class educational opportunities that Hispanic-Serving Institutions provide with the power of Fulbright further enriches the experience and educational opportunities for students and scholars both at home and abroad,” he said.
Seven UC Riverside faculty members are recipients of the Fulbright fellowship for the 2023-24 academic year, traveling to locations around the world to teach and conduct research.
The State Department will host will host a Fulbright HSI Virtual Workshop on Nov. 9 featuring representatives from Fulbright HSI Leaders to share best practices to engage and support students and faculty The event is open to the public and is specifically designed for faculty, staff, and stakeholders at HSIs.
