R'Courses Continue to Generate Student Interest

Riverside, Ca –

During Week 1 of Spring quarter, eleven UCR undergraduate students swallowed their nerves and stepped in front of their own classes with lesson plans and materials ready. These students worked with faculty mentors during the fall and winter quarters to develop their own original syllabus to offer to other undergraduates as part of the R"Course initiative. The topics, ranging from Microfluidics to Harry Potter (see the full list at the student-created website here: http://rcourses.wix.com/spring2015), generated enormous interest from students. All 11 courses are successfully up and running, and student facilitators from English, Media and Cultural Studies, and Electrical Engineering found themselves with the need to create waiting lists. The R"Course program, approved by Academic Senate in December 2014, offers 1 unit of S/NC credit to students who complete these courses. Undergraduate Education will soon begin accepting proposals from students who will take the preparation course in Fall 2015 and offer courses in Winter 2016.
