More than 100 undergraduate students will present their work at the Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29 & 30 at the Highlander Union Building at the University of California, Riverside.

Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Education and now it its eighth year, the symposium is the opportunity for undergraduate students in all disciplines, including arts, humanities, sciences and engineering, to present their faculty-mentored projects to an audience of peers, faculty and administrators. It features oral and poster presentations and reports from undergraduates who conducted their research with community partners. Students also have abstracts summarizing their work published in the symposium proceedings.

"This year we have 114 presentations, including 35 poster presentations and 79 oral presentations. Every college is represented and we have majors ranging from art studio to bioengineering to entomology," said Veronique Rorive, director of educational initiatives for the Office of Undergraduate Education. "It provides an important venue for UCR undergraduate students to present what they have learned through their research and creative activity experiences to the UCR campus community."

The two-day symposium is free to attend and open to students, staff and faculty, as well as the general public. It runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, with posters in HUB 302 and oral presentations in HUB 355, 367 and 379. Rorive said she hopes to see a large turnout from faculty, staff, and especially undergraduate students who are not yet participating in undergraduate research.

"Students not yet involved in research will discover that attending the symposium is a great way to learn about the broad range of opportunities available at UCR," she said.
