Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Series Presents Curt Burgess & Friends, "Taking I-Learn to the Limit"
"Taking I-Learn to the Limit" refers to exploring the hidden possibilities of this powerful teaching and learning platform. Cognitive psychologist Curt Burgess has asked some of UCR's most creative instructors to produce 10-minute mini-demonstrations of ways to use I-Learn to improve teaching practice without adding time to the day. David Biggs (History) will show how to create blogs and use wikis to promote student learning. Ward Beyermann (Physics) will demonstrate how to use pre- and post-lecture testing to check quickly on student progress. Curt Burgess (Psychology) will demonstrate ways to elicit student feedback for "just-in-time" revision of lectures and to detect learning problems. Gene Nothnagel (Botany and Plant Sciences) will show how to use I-Learn to construct writing assignments in courses that would otherwise be too large and have too little support to allow for them. The colloquium will be offered twice: Tuesday, April 24 in HUB 269 and Wednesday, April 25 in Surge 367. Leo Schouest, UCR's instructional technology guru, will provide technical support. Join Curt Burgess & Friends for a noon "concert" of new I-Learn "tunes."
