Clark Kerr Lecture
The Office of Undergraduate Education will be co-hosting the Clark Kerr lecture at UC Riverside on February 14. The lecture, "Contemporary Trends: Diagnoses and Conditional Predictions," will be given by Neil Smelser, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. Smelser's lecture will explore the factors contributing to the current crisis in public higher education and the likely changes resulting from the crisis. One of the most distinguished and accomplished leaders in American higher education, Professor Smelser is also recognized as a profound observer of university life.
He joined the faculty in 1958 and has authored 18 books, including "Theory of Collective Behavior." Professor Smelser is a former president of the American Sociological Association, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a member of the American Philosophical Society. The Clark Kerr lecture is sponsored by the Center for Studies in Higher Education with support of the UC Office of the President and the Carnegie Corporation. The lecture will be held on Tuesday, February 14 at 4 p.m. in 302 HUB with a reception to follow. View the flyer
