Scheduling and remote flexibility

As the current surge in cases worsens in California, it is becoming clear that most faculty and staff who have been able to work remotely will likely be asked to continue to do so through the end of 2020. Exceptions to this general approach are staff members whose job functions can only be performed on-site, which includes many of our colleagues who support some research, instructional, student support, and operational activities that are essential during this time.

If you are unsure whether your specific job requires you to be on-campus, or if you have concerns about physically coming to your workspace, please consult with your supervisor. For specific health-related or disability-related concerns related to you and your ability to come to your workspace, please consult with Disability Management.

While work continues across campus organizations, we ask that supervisors provide as much flexibility as feasible regarding remote work and scheduling to accommodate caregiving responsibilities and other consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We appreciate everyone’s commitment and creativity as we navigate through the rest of summer and fall quarter. There are variables and data that will become clearer as the year progresses and we will continue to update faculty and staff as we learn more.

Sincerely,

Kim A. Wilcox
Chancellor
