Apply for the 2022-23 Student Leadership Institute

Student Leadership Institute

On Friday, September 16, the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) will be closing its application period for the 2022-23 cohort. SLI is a paid opportunity that offers leadership and skills-building training to empower participants to engage in the higher education policy process, network with professionals, and advocate for critical higher education issues that directly impact them. Through training and advocacy sessions, student leaders are equipped with information and tools to be agents of social change within their own college campuses.

Hear from higher education advocates, Hector Favela-Coreas and Valerie Johnson, about how SLI has supported them with the skills to create a more equitable system of higher education and how the Institute has supported their careers:

SLI Person 1

"The Student Leadership Institute has been one of the most influential and transformative programs I've participated in. From gaining first-hand experience in higher ed advocacy to learning the ins and outs of legislation, participating in SLI helped me discover my passion. I learned that one person can have a tremendous impact on the lives of others. SLI taught me to be an agent of change for my school, community, and it's one of the main reasons I pursued my Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling."

SLI Person 2

"The student leadership institute allowed me to grow and use my skills in advocacy to support student voices and interests in a way that I had no idea was possible. As participants, we learned about how policymaking impacted our experiences while engaging in real-time through lobbying and meeting with our elected officials to share student issues. SLI was part of the beginning of my journey to find and pursue my passion of building a more equitable higher education system for all students, and now I get to do it for a living to support community college students!"
