About University Writing

University Writing Program
The University Writing Program is responsible for teaching Entry-Level writing courses, English 1ABC, and Writing Across the Curriculum. More than 10,000 students enroll in these courses each year, fall through spring. Many enroll in summer courses before they become full-time UCR students. In all these offerings, students have the chance to meet in small classes to develop core competencies in reading, writing, and speaking that are devoted to critical analysis, complex reasoning, and responding to the writing and speaking of others. These competencies define academic literacy in higher education, and are crucial to success at all levels of study at the University of California.
