University Writing Program

The University Writing Program is responsible for teaching Entry-Level courses, English 1ABC, and Senate-designated writing-intensive courses in WAC (the campus program in Writing Across the Curriculum). Approximately 12,000 students enroll in these courses each year, fall through summer. In all these offerings, students have the opportunity to meet in small classes to develop core competencies in reading, writing, and speaking that are devoted to critical analysis, complex reasoning, and responding to the writing and speaking of others. These competencies define academic literacy in higher education, and are crucial to success at all levels of student at the University of California.
