Undergraduate Education is committed to promoting student learning and academic success. Transitional Programs
- BCOE Freshman Transition Program
The Freshman Transition Program in the Bourns College of Engineering is an intensive effort to improve students’ academic performance and help students achieve academic success through workshops and one-on-one peer advising. - CHASS F1RST
CHASS F1RST, the first-year-experience for the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) has three programs to challenge and support new students as they make the transition from high school to academic life. The programs include CHASS-Connect, Gateway to CHASS, and First Year Learning Community. These programs are designed to provide students with a challenging and exciting, yet supportive and collaborative learning environment. - CNAS Freshman Scholars Learning Community
The CNAS Freshman Scholars Learning Community Program is a year-long program for first-year CNAS students enrolling in Chemistry and Mathematics courses during their first quarter at UCR. Students attend these courses together as a small community, are placed into discussion groups with the same classmates, and, during the Fall quarter, participate as a community in a CNAS Freshmen Advising Seminar taught by a tenure-track faculty member. - Engineering First-Year Learning Communities
EFLCs are groups of freshman engineers who learn and study together in supportive academic clusters. The experience is designed to facilitate learning in a university setting while supporting transition to university life. - First-Year Success Series
The First-Year Success Series is a great opportunity for students to meet and interact with numerous UCR staff, while learning about campus resources in greater depth. It helps students to get the most out of their first year on campus and to navigate their everyday challenges outside the classroom. - Learning Center
The Learning Center is a team of educators, counselors, and advanced students who provide a variety of services to help students succeed in their college classes. The Learning Center is for all students who are not satisfied with their current grades and/or academic performance. - Learning Community Programs
Students in any College have the opportunity to participate in First-Year Learning Communities. Students are place in small groups with their peers and attend two ro three core courses together. These programs are coordinated by academic theme, major, or discipline. - Medical Scholars Program
The goal of the UC Riverside Medical Scholars Program (MSP) is to increase the diversity of UC Riverside students who are successful in achieving their academic and career goals. All students at UCR are eligible to apply. - Summer Bridge Program
Summer Bridge offers incoming freshmen an opportunity to prepare for the academic rigors and challenges of UCR! Students spend five fun weeks on campus where they will meet new students, become familiar with campus resources, work on math or writing skills, and improve study skills. - Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides academic support in Math and Science courses. SI leaders are selected from students who have excelled in the course, and who, as a part of their job, attend course lectures and work in collaboration with professors and teaching assistants to provide one-on-one and workshop-style support. - University Honors Program
The University Honors Program (UHP) strives to encourage and support students in their quest for academic, professional, and personal excellence. The UHP provides opportunities for personal growth, service learning, leadership, and research.
Experiential Learning Opportunities
- Academic Internships
Internships offer learning experiences outside of the classroom, that enhance students' academic and career goals. Internships allow students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience that will give them a competitive edge in the job market. - Career Center
The Career Center offers a variety of services to students in order to provide a warm and professional environment to help individuals feel comfortable in exploring careers as well as receiving counseling. - Clubs, Organizations & Student Government
UCR has nearly 2,000 clubs and organizations, including fraternities and sororities in which students can become involved. - Education Abroad Program
The International Education Center caters to outbound students who have the desire and eligibility to study in a foreign country. - Prestigious Scholarships & Fellowships
The Office of Undergraduate Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards provides a range of support services intended to maximize UCR students' competitiveness for prestigious awards. The office works with students at all academic levels to create effective strategies for securing scholarships, fellowships, and awards. - Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity
The symposium celebrates the research, scholarship, and creative activities carried out by undergraduate students. Undergraduates in all disciplines — the arts, humanities, sciences, and engineering — present their faculty-mentored projects to audiences of peers, faculty and administrators, as well as have their abstracts published in the Symposium Proceedings. - UC Washington Academic Internship Program (UCDC)
The UC Riverside Washington Academic Program provides undergraduate students with a multi-dimensional educational experience in Washington, D.C. Students undertake educational and academic pursuits as well as participate in cultural and social activities. - Undergraduate Research Grants
Funding is available to encourage undergraduates to engage in laboratory or scholarly research, or other creative activity under the close guidance of a faculty mentor. Student travel for the purpose of presenting their work at a scholarly conference will also be considered an acceptable use of the funds. - Undergraduate Research Journal
Research is an important component of the student experience at UCR. Undergraduates are encouraged to publish their faculty-mentored research, scholarship and creative work through the UCR Undergraduate Research Journal. This an internal journal that provides students the opportunity to experience of submitting their work for student and faculty review for inclusion in the Journal. - Undergraduate Research Opportunities Database
