Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

About David Fairris
Dave Fairris joined the UCR faculty in 1989 as a professor of economics. He has published widely in both professional journals and books, specializing in the area of labor economics. His research contributes to a better understanding of the determinants of worker health and safety, the impact of worker voice on workplace outcomes, labor markets and labor institutions in Mexico, and low-wage labor markets in the US. In 1999-2000 he traveled to Mexico as a Fulbright Fellow, accompanied by his wife and two sons.
From 2004–2007 he served as associate dean of Student Academic Affairs in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, where he helped to develop transition programs for freshmen and programs for students in academic difficulty. He was also instrumental in developing evaluation models for assessing the impact of these programs.
He has served as the vice provost for Undergraduate Education since July of 2007, and has continued the emphasis on program development and evaluation in this position. Programs that help with the transition to UCR for freshmen and transfer students, aid students who are struggling academically, foster undergraduate research and civic engagement, and promote best-practice teaching methods among faculty are among his special interests.
